Maybe it’s because I’m bored in class, but I just realized something. The music industry is still lagging, whether in decreased concert attendance, or CD sales, or increased pirating of digital music… and I’m completely okay with it.
Here’s my rationale: There are Artists out there that enter the industry to become famous and make boatloads of dough. There are also Artists out there that enter the industry because they love their music and their fans. If the industry lags, the first kind thins out, and the second kind prospers. That is music to my ears (sorry).
If an artist that used to be making millions of dollars in CD sales or concert revenue is losing some of those millions? Honestly, you don’t need that much MORE money, focus on making good music and being in sync with your fans!
All the artists who are embracing technology to interact with fans (and give them free music, they know they’ll get it anyway) and who are trying to make new music and searching for new sounds, keep at it. I love you. Their message is clear: If you actually like my music, buy my album to support me. For those artists I support and love, I will absolutely shell out (dough) as long as they don’t sell out.
